Every minute, of every hour, of every day, more than 2,000 lightning flashes occur over the face of the earth. Most often, lightning discharges harmlessly in the atmosphere, between storm clouds. But when lightning strikes the ground, it can cause considerable damage.
You can't stop lightning, but you can prevent its destructive effects.
Infinitron's approach to lightning protection and grounding involves a total systems concept. Structural lightning protection and grounding systems are not complete without considering possible damage to sensitive electronics. Direct or indirect lightning strikes, as well as transients, wreak havoc on today's high tech communications and data systems. Therefore, one must take into account protection for telecommunication, data, RF, and A/C
lines.
THE
LIGHTNING PROTECTION SURVEY
The key to successful surge/lightning protection system is the implementation of a comprehensive site survey which consists of the following:
1. Inspection of the telecom /communications equipment, its cabling, power supplies & earthing.
2. Inspection of the computer room equipment, its cabling, power supplies & earthing. Information is also collected to assess the routing of the cabling, entering & leaving the computer room, & essential computer equipment located outside of the computer room.
3. Inspection of the HV & LV power supply system, & the cabling distribution around the buildings, in particular to areas of strategic importance i.e. computer rooms, telecommunications rooms, essential equipment located outside of these areas, security, intruder & fire alarm systems.
4. Structural lightning protection of the building and its bonding to the earthing systems.
5. The earthing system within the building & the earth termination network. Tests to assess the current earth quality of the building. Inspection of the security, intruder & fire alarm systems, equipment & cabling (power & signaling)
